Smart Goals - The Birth of a Blog
At the start of the semester Carleigh, our LA 151 teacher, brought up the concept of SMART goals. Basically, it's a way to plan out specific goals by using a series of checkpoints which make up the acronym. SMART stands for "Specific goal", "Measurable", "Attainable", "Resources" and "Time-frame". The steps are pretty self-explanatory.We did one in class last week so we could put it up as an example on our blog.
- Specific goal - To maintain "A" grade in Computer Drafting this semester
- Measurable - "A" on final grades at end of semester
- Attainable - Yes
- Resources - Worksheets, teacher, workshops, other students in class
- Time frame - 5 weeks
- Steps:
- Attend all classes
- Take notes in class
- Finish homework on time
- Attend workshops
- Study for final exam
I wouldn't normally approach my goals in this way. I'm really bad at organizing what I need to do and most of the time my planners are only filled in at the start of the year and ignored for the rest. But I can definitely see why this is a good method to follow. It forces you to think clearly about the steps needed for you to achieve your goals and so far I'm right on track with the one I posted above. But no matter what method you choose to achieve your goals, the most important thing is effort. Hopefully, I'll keep it up for the rest of the semester.
I'll get back to you on that.
Oh and welcome to my blog!
